Altar Server
Young people have been given a special place in the Eucharistic Liturgy: to assist the Priest by serving at the altar. As an Altar Server, our parish youth also become integral to the celebration of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
"When you take part in the Liturgy by carrying out your altar service, you offer a witness to all. Your absorption, the devotion that wells up from your heart and is expressed in gestures, in song, in the responses: if you do it correctly and not absent-mindedly, then in a certain way your witness is one that moves people."
---Pope Benedict XVI addressing altar servers on August 2, 2006
The duties of an altar server are varied, but the role can be extremely fulfilling. The primary focus of the altar server is to assist the Priest and Deacon during Mass. This assistance by the altar server allows the congregation to concentrate and particpate better in the music, the prayers, the proclamation of Scripture, and most especially, the beautiful Liturgy of the Eucharist. Altar Servers go through a training program to learn their role at Mass, and to gain a deeper knowledge of the Eucharistic Celebration. On special occasions, altar servers will learn to assist at special liturgical celebrations, as at the Triduum (Holy Thursday, Good Friday and the Vigil of Easter on Holy Saturday), and at the Holy Mass with the Rite of Confirmation when the Archbishop presides. In addition, altar servers are called upon to assist during baptisms, weddings, and funerals.
Requirements to become an Altar Server: Children: 10 year of age or older and have received the Sacrament of First Eucharist. Adults: Have received the Sacraments of First Eucharist and Confirmation, are registered members of the Parish for at least six months and have completed the Safe Environment training. For information about the Altar Server Ministry please contact Deacon Tony Layton.

Art and Environment
The Art and Environment Committee is responsible for the seasonal adornment and beautification of the Church. Our most active times of the year are during the Easter and Christmas seasons.
We meet approximately twice a year to plan these sacred seasons. Members work as needed by adding or changing linens, flowers, banners, and any other seasonal decorations. If you are interested in the Art and Environment Ministry, or for more information please contact Beverly Layton, chairman.
