Pope Leo XIV - Viva il Papa!
Robert Prevost was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 14, 1955, the son of Louis Marius Prevost and Mildred Martinez. He completed his secondary studies at the minor seminary of the Order of St. Augustine in 1973. Prevost earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics at Villanova University.
He joined the Order of St. Augustine in 1977 and took vows in 1981. He was ordained a priest in 1982. Prevost served as a missionary in Peru for many years, working as a parish priest, teacher, and pastor. He was appointed as the Bishop of Chiclayo, Peru, 2014 to 2023.
In 2023, he was made a cardinal by Pope Francis and appointed as the Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops at the Vatican. This office is in charge of nominating bishops throughout the world.
On May 8, 2025 he was elected Bishop of Rome and Successor of St. Peter.
Let us remember Pope Leo in our prayers as he begins his ministry in the global Church.
“Lord, preserve him and give him life and make him blessed upon the earth. Deliver him not up to the will of the enemy.” (Psalm 41:1)
